The benefits of getting into a committed relationship are enormous. Studies show you end up living longer and happier. People in committed relationships are less likely to feel lonely. And of course, some people use their committed relationship as the foundation for growing a family and raising kids.
But not all relationships are committed relationships. So what does a committed relationship look like? For starters, both partners have verbally, and with their actions, expressed long-term commitment and love for each other. Let's break that down.
SIGNS YOU'RE IN A COMMITTED RELATIONSHIP
Both partners love each other, and regularly express that love for each other.
Both partners are respectful and communicate with emotional intelligence during conflicts
Both partners prioritise the relationship as a foundation for their long term vision for themselves.
You're not counting the days with each other. You're not resenting the time you spend together.
You're not deriving status from each other. i.e. the emotional love and connection between the two of you override the other traits you bring to the table like money, good looks etc.
Both partners feel they are the best version of themselves in the relationship.
